12-07-08: Pulled the babies tonight for handfeeding!
Amazing how big they are! They practically fill this Cool Whip container!
Each baby was weighed before putting them into the brooder.
This is the oldest baby, #01.
Born on Nov. 24, that makes him
13 days old today. He weighs a whopping 88 grams!
This is the middle baby, #02.
Born on Nov. 26, he is 11 days old today and weighs 86 grams!
And the baby, #03.
Born Nov. 29, he is just 8 days old and weighs only 46 grams. Seems like a huge difference between this youngest and his two older siblings.
He has some catching up to do!
After the babies were weighed and pictures taken,
they were placed into the brooder. I am using an Aviquarium 10, which is a cover that fits atop a 10 gallon aquarium and radiates heat from the top. It's the brooder I've been using since I started handfeeding my meyers. Back in the old days I used to use a heating pad under an aquarium. This is so much better!
I'll get the heat regulated tonight - I started at about 86 degrees but they were panting and spread apart at that heat, so I've been dropping it a degree or two and checking them every 15 minutes.
Normally I pull kids at night and then let them empty out completely before that first feeding the next morning.
So, the adventure has begun!
